Spain’s Energy Transition: From Renewable Expansion to Grid Resilience

Spain’s energy transition represents a shift towards a high-renewable, flexible, and resilient power system, driven by strong policy support and rapid expansion of wind and solar energy. With renewables now contributing over half of electricity generation, the focus is increasingly on integrating these resources through energy storage, advanced grid management, and demand-side participation such as time-of-use tariffs. Recent regulatory measures and investments in storage and grid infrastructure, especially following the 2025 Iberian Peninsula blackout, highlight Spain’s commitment to ensuring grid stability alongside decarbonisation, making it a leading model for sustainable and secure energy transition.
